Florence

Before we ever got on a plane to head to Italy, our expectations for Florence were already sky high. Everyone we knew who had visited, spoke very very highly of Florence. Examples of things said include but are not limited to: “They have the best steak in Florence.” “They have the best leather in Florence!” “They have the best pizza in Florence!”

In fact, even while we were enjoying other places in our trip, we would “save”things to do while we would be in Florence. “Oh, we can’t forget to buy souvenirs - we’ll do it in Florence.” “Mmm - I want to go to some leather shops. We’ll do it in Florence.” “We HAVE to get some wine for ourselves. Florence”

Needless to say: Our expectations were HIGH.

Florence did not disappoint.

From the city views, to the shops, to the food, to the people. Everything was phenomenal. Florence is the perfect blend of history and modern art in one. There is art everywhere. Example: be on the lookout for the street artist Clet. He uses the city as his canvas by modifying street signs in silly and clever ways. The city itself is very walkable. Alden and I walked everywhere and never once felt unsafe or lost. The Duomo and accompanying museums were impeccably laid out. There’s really not one bad thing we could say about this city.

And yes- I literally had the best steak of my life - bought the best leather I’ve ever owned - had the best pizza - in Florence.
